In honor of the upcoming Neko Case show at the Cannery Ballrooom on May 17th, it seems appropriate to relay the information all over the internets the past couple of days that Neko Case will be touring up with My Morning Jacket for the final few shows on their summer tours in support of the release of MMJ’s highly-anticipated new album Circuital (on ATO Records releasing 31 May 2011).
The show with Neko on Tuesday, May 17th is sure to be a memorable night out. Neko is known for her work as the lead singer on a number of New Pornographer tracks, and she also has a very successful solo career highlighted by her 2002 album Blacklisted (which may be named due to her life-time ban from the Grand Ole Opry for taking her shirt off during a 2001 performance. Neko says she was having a heatstroke.) and her 2006 album Fox Confessor Brings The Flood. I think more importantly is just how strong of a female personality she is. In case you don’t know Neko’s work, a couple of tracks are below.
Deep Red Bells (Blacklisted – Bloodshot Records)
Star Witness (Fox Confessor Brings The Flood – Anti- Records)
As for My Morning Jacket, we will have to wait until Bonnaroo (6/9) rolls through middle Tennessee to see these fellow southerners light it up. If you can’t wait that long, The New York Times reported last week that MMJ will live broadcast their first show in the hometown of Louisville KY in conjunction with the release of Circuital on 5/31. If you can’t even wait that long, you can hear the title track of the new album below.
