Catch The Whigs w/ The Gills and Reality Something TONIGHT at The Basement East

Well, we can already feel it. The intense Nashville summer heat is ever so slightly starting to die down and make way for fall. Before we know it, the leaves will be filled with a multitude of different colors, pumpkin spice will be in the air, and the fall music onslaught will officially begin here in Nashville. Kicking off the season on the east side of town tonight are three of the heaviest hitters in the local rock scene. Long standing rock titans The Whigs will be joined by two of the hottest rising acts in the local scene in The Gills and Reality Something.  They will take over The Basement East tonight starting at 9 pm (doors at 8 pm), and tickets are still available for $12.

The Gills Premiere “Aria,” Announce New EP

The Gills-2015-620

It has been quite a year for The Gills.  After relocating to Music City from Pensacola, they started making waves in the local scene with their high energy live shows, and made a splash with their EP, 1, which dropped last year and featured gritty alt-rock stand outs like “Lemonade” and “Rubberband.”  The band recently announced a new EP, 2, which is due out on Oct. 14, and just dropped the first single, “Aria,” from that effort.  Based on our first few listens to the single, The Gills appear to be reaching back towards their pop leaning tracks off their earlier albums, but are retaining the power driven rock underbelly that has brought them so much success locally.

Have a listen to “Aria” below, and keep your ears on No Country for upcoming shows in support of the new record.

Catch Rainbow Kitten Surprise, The Gills, & Luthi @ Exit/In Tonight

Rainbow Kitten Surprise-620

Rising Boone, NC indie rock outfit Rainbow Kitten Surprise popped onto our radar of late with their catchy hooks, rhythmic harmonies, and heartfelt lyrics.  Digging back through their catalog, starting with their 2013 debut, Seven + Mary, it’s clear to see influences ranging from Bon Iver to Kings of Leon, yet they manage to create a uniquely singular style that sets them apart from the flood of other “indie” rockers on the scene these days.  Songs like the wildly catchy “Devil Like Me” from that release put them on the map, but touring and the release of their second LP, RKS, show a continued maturity in their sound.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise are playing tonight at Exit/In along side local faves The Gills and Luthi.  A few $10 tickets still remain for the 9 p.m. show.  If you need further convincing, head below to get a taste of each of the acts performing to push you over the edge.
