You rarely hear the words indie and harpist together. For that matter, you don’t often hear the words singer-songwriter and harpist together either. You’ll get all of those combinations tonight, as rising starlet Mikaela Davis takes over The High Watt. Davis’ stock started to rise after the release of her Youtube covers of Sufjan Steven’s “Casimir Pulaski Day” and Elliot Smith’s “Twilight”. Don’t think this is all about covers, though. Davis is currently touring in support of her most recent EP, Fortune Teller, and her virtuosity with the harp makes those well crafted songs seem as effortless as the aforementioned indie standards.
Mikaela is backed by Alex Coté on drums and percussion, and Cian McCarthy on guitar, sitar, and keys. Mikaela herself began with classical training at the age of 8, and spent a number of years performing with her hometown’s Rochester (NY) Symphony before breaking out to find her own more “modern voice”.
The show starts tonight at 8 p.m. (Doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available for only $10. Yes, we know Live On The Green is starting tonight, but, if you are looking for a more intimate affair, then this just might be the perfect show for you. Head below to check out a track from her most recent EP, and the Sufjan Steven’s cover that first brought this talented lady to our attention.
