RODRIGO Y GABRIELA
We’ve gone on and on about the Mexican native duo, who found fame after busking on the streets in Dublin. Their unique take on flamenco and latin style music interspiced with tid bits from their love of metal. It’s an interesting idea, a fun listen, and is absolutely incredible to see live. If you’ve never seen them, but have ever heard or better yet used the term “jaw dropping”, then this is a not to miss show for you. Touring in support of their fourth LP, 9 Dead Alive, the dynamic duo has taken on more songwriting chops to accompany their obvious virtuosity with their guitars. The theme of the new album are songs written to bring to life influential figures that have inspired their musical lives. It’s really quite the interesting read, and the album is quite the listen. Check out the first single, “The Soundmaker”, which is dedicated to Antonio de Torres Jurado, who is essentially the father of the Spanish (and accordingly acoustic) guitar below.
MILOW
Breakout Belgian star Jonathan Vandenbroeck has recognized success in his home county since his self-released debut, The Bigger Picture, in 2006, and it only took a couple of years for the rest of Europe to take note of the rising star. His sophomore release, Coming Of Age, was repackaged and rereleased under his current moniker of Milow in 2009, and the rest of the world was running to keep up with the bandwagon. This in large part to a completely stripped down cover of the 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland single “Ayo Technology”, which went platinum and gold in numerous European nations. 51+ million youtube views later on that track alone, and it appears that Milow is ready to bring his unique songwriting and comforting style to America. Have a listen to the breakout single below, and find out why you probably want to get there early (and take a cold shower later).
