One of our favorite local up and coming pop and soul singers, Chicago transplant Josie Dunne wowed us last year with her debut EP (and major label release) To Be the Little Fish. Despite a few years as a Nashville resident, and many years prior making the trek down to write and hone her craft, Josie is only now playing her first proper headlining show in town, Feb. 5 at Exit/In with likeminded local pop up and comer estef. With breakout jams like “Old School” and “Cool With It,” Dunne is definitely a rising local artist that should be on your radar, and we urge you to snag tickets to her latest, very special Music City outing right here! We’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan, so if you’d rather leave it to chance, read on for more about the show and enter for a chance to win below.
JOSIE DUNNE
Hailing from the suburbs of Chicago, local pop and soul transplant Josie Dunne technically only released her debut EP, To Be the Little Fish, last year, but the young singer’s musical career and long-running relationship with Nashville spans back considerably longer. Raised on classic soul and Motown, as well as contemporary and dance-primed pop, Dunne began singing in her pre-teen years, eventually playing out live on a near weekly basis long before she was even old enough to drive. As her musical career continued to progress, Josie spent time in high school making regular trips to Nashville, honing her skill as a writer and eventually helping pen tracks for huge names like Kelly Clarkson. Dunne inked a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell back in 2014, and eventually a record deal with Atlantic, taking a few years to develop her soulful, pop-accessible sound before dropping her first EP last year at only 21. With jams like “Cool With It” and the adorable “Old School,” an ode to her parents’ genuine, lifelong love, Dunne has already been attracting plenty of buzz, and though this show is technically her first Nashville headliner, the promising up and comer has already spent nearly a decade performing and honing her sound, and is undoubtedly primed for a huge career ahead.
ESTEF
Another name we’ve been seeing more frequently around town as of late, soulful pop singer estef, like Dunne, was raised on a steady diet of soul and Motown, and is also a transplant, hailing originally from Los Angeles. She only has a few tracks to her name, but the most recent, “Come Around,” has us particularly excited to hear more, fusing retro and contemporary sensibilities with electronic flourish and powerful vocal hooks. After opening for performers like R.LUM.R and popping up on tracks with artists like Dreamer Boy and Pink Slip, it’s clear estef is an artist to watch amidst Nashville’s flourishing pop scene, and she’s certainly a welcome addition to this bill!
