It’s been a few years since we saw art punk legends Television play Exit/In, and, while their show was amazing, the lack of a major presence- original guitarist and co-founder Richard Lloyd– was certainly felt. Newly a resident of Tennessee (the Chattanooga area, best we can tell), Lloyd, despite departing Television in 2007, is still going strong, continuing to stoke the solo career he began all the way back in 1979, with first post-Televeion effort Alchemy. An institution of the New York scene, Lloyd spent his formative years rubbing elbows with the likes of Blondie, the Ramones, Talking Heads, and even Jimi Hendrix, and his artsy, avant garde approach to crafting music with Television helped influence countless other acts and cement the art rock and proto-punk sound of the late ’70s. A multi-instrumentalist and versatile songwriter, Lloyd has managed to retain much of the spirit of his early work, while dabbling with more contemporary sensibilities on more recent efforts, and his latest, The Countdown, just dropped today though Plowboy Records, on the heels of his new memoir, Everything Is Combustible.

Celebrating both the album and book, Lloyd will return to Nashville tonight, Nov. 2, to headline 3rd & Lindsley, along with local rockers Smoky White Devils. In addition to his performance, where he’ll showcase his new songs for the first time, Richard is hosting a meet and greet, book signing, and listening party ahead of the show (apparently free to general ticket holders, and set to take place in the venue’s “Backstage” satellite venue area), where he’ll also display many of his original paintings. Basically, if you’re a Richard Lloyd fan, this sounds like the ultimate experience, and tickets are still available right here!

Richard Lloyd and Smoky White Devils will perform tonight, Nov. 2 at 3rd & Lindsely, the show is all ages, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 6 p.m.), and tickets are available for $10. A special meet and greet, book signing, and art show will also take place at 6 p.m.
