DeathFromAbove2017-620

Formed in 2001 in Toronto, Ontario, Death from Above (who went by Death From Above 1979 from 2004 until reverting back to their original name earlier this year) first started turning heads with the release of a series of EPs in the early ’00s, before really breaking through with their explosive debut, You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine, in 2004. Citing creative differences, the duo split shortly after, only to reconvene in 2011, first for an interment series of performances and, finally, a long-awaited sophomore LP, The Physial World, in 2014, a decade after their debut.

The group’s noisy, dance-ready, punk inspired sound has inspired countless other acts over the last decade, and, in their absence, they managed to amass something of a cult following. Now that they’ve been longer than they ever were in the first place, DFA’s second chapter has become just as vibrant and essential to the band’s history, and with their brand new third album, Outrage! Is Now, it feels like they’ve let the weight of fan expectations go to explore where they are musically and personally in 2017, not straying too far from the formula, but also not staying beholden to it, exploring more metal and rock rock influences.

Tonight, Oct. 31, Death From Above return to Nashville for the first time since a 2015 outing at Third Man, for a headlining appearance at Cannery Ballroom with Toronto alt/indie rock up and comers The Beaches, celebrating their recent debut Late Show, set to open. You can still grab tickets here, and for once, procrastinating might benefit you, as they’re two-for-one with promo code ‘DEATHFROMABOVE.’ And feel free to arrive in costume, but you won’t be admitted with fake weapons, real weapons, objects that could cause harm, or non-removable masks.

Death From Above and The Beaches will perform tonight, Oct. 31 at Cannery Ballroom. The show is 18+, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available for $30.50 (or $15.25 using promo code ‘DEATHFROMABOVE’).
