State Champs-620

In just a few short years, breakout New York group State Champs have already cemented their status and pop punk’s rising heirs apparent. Exploding onto the scene with their buzzworthy 2013 LP The Finer Things, the young band soon found themselves supporting popular acts like Motion City Soundtrack and All Time Low, wound up on Warped Tour, and, incredibly, opened for mega-famous pop punk boyband 5 Seconds of Summer for a stint of shows overseas. Proving truly here to stay, State Champs dropped an even better, more mature followup album, Around the World and Back, in 2015 and with no signs of slowing down in sight, seem poised to become one of the biggest bands in the scene before you know it.

While their seemingly endless tour schedule has brought them to Nashville plenty over the last few years, State Champs seem to get better and better and every time, and their return tonight, May 2 for an all ages show at Cannery Ballroom is sure to be a blast if you like your pop punk heavy on the pop, with a lot of hooks and tons of energy. Buzzy, rising pop rock trio Against the Current, Australian pop punks With Confidence, and English genre-bending rockers Don Broco all support, making this a buzzworthy smattering of the best of what’s next. Don’t sleep on grabbing tickets!

State Champs, Against the Current, With Confidence, and Don Broco will perform tonight, May 2 at Cannery Ballroom. The show is all ages, begins at 6:30 p.m. (doors at 6 p.m.), and tickets are available to purchase for $23.

After the show (or, if you’re just looking for a late night hang), Nashville Is The Reason are throwing the official afterparty at The Pub at The Basement East. Per usual, the DJ night/punk rock social will feature classic favorites ranging from emo to punk to hardcore, with guest DJ sets from State Champs. If you haven’t checked out NITR yet, you’re missing out. More low-key then some of the trendier emo nights popping up around the country, it’s simply a great opportunity to get nostalgic with some quality tunes, and hang with a lot of great people, often local musicians and industry folks.

Nashville Is The Reason, featuring guest DJ sets from State Champs, takes place tonight, May 2 at The Basement East. The party is 21+, gets started at 10 p.m. and runs late, and it’s totally FREE.
