[REMINDER] Catch Cherry Glazerr w/ Ian Sweet & Lala Lala | TONIGHT @ The High Watt

Three exciting, rising garage, grunge, punk, and pop influenced acts, LA’s Cherry Glazerr, New York’s Ian Sweet, and Chicago’s Lala Lala are coming to The High Watt tonight, March 24, and with new albums out from every single band, it’s incredible time to see them live. All fronted by (or made up of) women (not that that defines them, but is nonetheless rad), these buzzworthy bands are well on their way to achieving broad, breakout success, and if you’re a fan of the lo-fi, grunge pop wave of influence sweeping the indie scene, they’ll be right up your alley. CHERRY GLAZERR

Helmed by 19 year old frontwoman Clementine Creevy, LA garage rock/noise pop outfit Cherry Glazerr started a series of solo, bedroom demos, then under the moniker Clembutt, which caught the attention of Burger Records, who subsequently released them as a tape called Papa Cremps. Soon after, Cherry Glazerr became a full-fledged band, and released their debut, Haxel Princess, while Clementine, who also began modeling and appearing on acclaimed show Transparent as a member of fictional group Glitterish around the same time, was still in high school. Darlings of the blogosphere, the band had settled into a new lineup of drummer Tabor Allen and multi-instrumentlaist Sasami Ashworth by last year, and the trio released their sophomore Cherry Glazerr effort, Apocalipstick, back in January. Dazzling, confident, and a sonic leap forward (accomplished producers Joe Chiccarelli and Carls De La Garza took the reigns on this one), Apocalipstick is the sound of a band coming into their own and living up the mountain of hype surrounding them; needles to say, it’s an incredibly exciting time to see this rising act live!

IAN SWEET

Like Cherry Glazerr, New York’s Ian Sweet started out as a solo project, then simply called Ian, the childhood nickname of frontwoman and self-proclaimed tomboy Jilian Medford, while she was attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After recruiting a rhythm section of drummer Tim Cheney and bassist Damien Scalise, the three instinctively clicked and forged the musical bond and honed style of Ian Sweet while touring relentlessly, releasing their first EP as a trio in 2014. After countless more live dates, festival appearances, and mounting buzz, the band debuted their first full-length, Shapeshifter, last fall, and it’s without a doubt their strongest work to date, fusing grunge, garage pop, and indie to craft poignant, personal songs. They just played Charlie Bob’s with Idle Bloom, but we couldn’t be more exited that this talented group are back so soon!

LALA LALA

Hailing from Chicago, indie punks Lala Lala (or La La La La, we’ve seen it written both ways), play a grungy, poppy style that fits right in with the rest of this lineup, but also takes a more raw, lo-fi bent a la Girlpool or Frankie Cosmos. Their latest LP, Sleepyhead, arrived last fall, so be sure to show up early and catch what is one rad, well-balanced lineup of punk.

Cherry Glazerr, Ian Sweet, and Lala Lala will perform tonight, March 24 at The High Watt. The show is 18+, begins at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available to purchase for $13.
