What’s a “raconteur” anyway? Unchained has answer | 1.13.13

unchainedThe Unchained Tour has emerged from the internationally acclaimed storytelling network The Moth, founded by best-selling author George Dawes Green. George and a roster of “amazing raconteurs” will perform during this uniquely entertaining evening filled with story, circus arts, and song. Earlier dates included appearances by Neil Gaiman, and while Mr. Sandman himself won’t be making a stop in Nashville, there will be an uncanny amount of talent dropping into The Building on Sunday night.

Here’s what they’re about: Unchained believes that the art of the raconteur—the telling of unscripted, personal, porch-style stories—is one of the great arts, and that nights of storytelling are vital to any vibrant and healthy community. Our mission is to bring brilliant raconteurs, along with musicians and writers and other artists, to towns large and small across the South—and eventually across the continent. We’ll champion the local and home-grown: independent bookstores, community gardens, performing cafes.  We’ll advocate getting offline and off the grid, and wherever we go we’ll celebrate the pleasure and inspiration of raconteuring.

The evening’s festivities also feature music by Christopher Paul Stelling. You Can check him out via the media below.

You can get tickets in advance at locally owned, Parnassus Books, and we encourage you to stop in there for a refresher on how awesome books are since you obviously like reading and you like indie local stuff, being that you’re reading this blog about indie local stuff and all. But, if you don’t have time to browse the stacks at Parnassus, you can also snag tix online here. Show’s Sunday @ The Building on Woodland, $15, 7:30pm.

They ride on this bus. I want to ride on this bus.

Local folks can relate this event to the work of Minton Sparks and the awesome First Time Story events of Actors Bridge Ensemble and The Sideshow Fringe Festival. More info about Unchained can be found at their site or check out the facebook event for details
