[REMINDER] Don’t Miss Citizen Cope | May 7 & 8 @ City Winery

Singer-songwriter, composer and producer Citizen Cope is gearing up to play two very special shows at City Winery on May 7 and May 8. Since the early 1990s, we’ve been blessed with his funky and experimental cuts that can make you feel the deepest sadness or the highest feelings of joy. This time around, he’s stripping things down and giving audience members a taste of his expansive catalog by spotlighting it in a whole new way.

CITIZEN COPE

Clarence Greenwood, better known by his pseudonym Citizen Cope, first brought his soulful  and bluesy sound into the mainstream in the 1990s with the release of his independent debut album Cope Citizen. Although he was able to snag his own record deal in 1997, he didn’t break into the mainstream until his self-titled LP was released in 2000. While well received, the album didn’t quite encompass the sound and tone that Greenwood was hoping for. After breaking free of his contract with Dreamworks, he released The Clarence Greenwood Recordings, which was celebrated for its mixture of R&B influences with folky traditional acoustic accompaniment.

In the next few years, he released two more albums (2o06’s Every Waking Moment and 2010’s The Rainwater LP) and focused on creating soundtracks for films and television shows. His most recent release was 2012’s One Lovely Day, which showcases the impressive evolution of his sound and vocal abilities. His unique style and incredible guitar skills have helped him snag collaborations with many big-name artists over the years, including Santana and Eric Clapton. He’s been busy working on a new acoustic album, and is performing some of his new and most beloved material during this intimate performance at City Winery.
