THE DARKNESS

If you haven’t been keeping up with British hard rock/glam metal act The Darkness since their “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” fueled breakout success in the early ’00s, here’s the cliff notes version. Following their smash 2003 debut, Permission to Land, on which that unescapable single appeared, the group dropped a less-buzzed about sophomore effort, before vocalist Justin Hawkins departed in ’06, breaking up the band and causing them to split into two new projects, Stone Gods and Hot Leg. In early 2011, the original lineup reconvened (they’ve since gone through a few drummers, recently landing with Rufus Tiger Taylor, son of Queen’s Roger Taylor), embarking on a comeback tour and unleashing a bombastic new album, Hot Cakes. Last year, The Darkness released Last of Our Kind, marking a less nostalgic and more timeless hard rock shift, perhaps their best effort since the debut, and are continuing to tour in support, sticking true to their roots as one of the last bastions of real rock and roll. After their long-overdue return to Nashville, the band are set to begin work on a new album, so whether you’re an old fan or new, it feels like there’s never been a better time to catch The Darkness in action.

RAVENEYE

Less than two years into their existence, British blues-rooted garage rock trio RavenEye are already have a career many acts would be envious of. With just one self-released EP to their name, the group have already toured with legends like Slash, Deep Purple, and Joe Satriani, and have found a great deal of success in their native Europe. Like The Darkness, they harbor heavy classic rock influences, although their sound skews more garage, alternative, and blues. Given their rapid, breakout success, it only seems a matter of time until RavenEye pop stateside, and you have a chance to be among the first to find out what all the fuss is about.

THE TIP

Something of a local rock supergroup, members of The Tip have previously performed with The Poor Boys, The Booze, Abernathy, Mama Fuzz, and Static Revival. Since forming in 2014, The Tip have become Nashville’s best equivalent to The Darkness, calling back to the glam, decadence, sleaze, energy, and attitude of the blues-fueled hard rock scene of an era past. The band dropped a self-titled debut album last year, and are cooking up some exciting things for 2016.

The Darkness, RavenEye, and The Tip will perform Saturday, April 23 at War Memorial Auditorium. The show is all ages, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available for $25-40.
