Margo Price to Play ‘SNL’ April 9

It’s only been a week since local songstress Margo Price dropped her debut solo album, Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, though Nashville’s own Third Man Records, but, already, the rest of the world seems to be falling in love with it as hard as we have. Certainly harboring elements of Price’s previous group Buffalo Clover, and building on the traditionalist country roots she began laying down with pseudo-supergroup Margo and the Price Tags, the LP is absolutely timeless and enchanting, a true testament to how amazing real country can be when performed honestly and earnestly. If you haven’t listened yet, stop reading and fix that immediately.

Building on the traction of her recent a debut television appearance on Conan (and local Grimey’s in-store), Margo is gearing up to set another gigantic milestone this week: she’ll be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live for this weekend’s episode, hosted by Russell Crowe and set to air live this Saturday, April 9. We can’t stress enough how huge an accomplishment this is; Margo, a newcomer to the national scene (though a longtime favorite to locals) joins the ranks of fellow season performers Kanye West, Adele, and Miley Cyrus, on what is inarguably a certifiable national institution. Notably, fellow Nashvillian Chris Stapleton made his SNL debut back in January, further proving that real-deal country is back on the rise.

Considering she’ll be in New York this week to rehearse, Price’s April 7 release show at Third Man has been moved to April 13; not that that matters if you didn’t snag tickets, because it’s long sold out.
