As we’ve been doing for the past several years now, we’re making it our mission to help you get acquainted with as many bands as we can from Bonnaroo‘s impressive 2016 lineup.  We’ll start from the bottom and work our way up, paying special attention to the smaller and lesser known acts on this year’s bill. Keep reading for your Bonnaroo Band of the Day…

LEARN

Considering their near-legendary status in the modern indie scene, and their perfect fit for the festival circuit, it’s kind of shocking that Brooklyn’s Beach Fossils have yet to play Bonnaroo. Better late than never, though, as the group gear up to hit the farm in anticipation of their long-awaited new album. Beach Fossils formed in 2009 as a solo vehicle for frontman Dustin Payseur, but quickly grew into a full band, albeit one with something of a revolving door of backing players, by the time of their eponymous 2010 debut, initially including Cole Smith and John Peña, who left to form DIIV and Heavenly Beat, respectively.

Incorporating elements of indie, pop, surf, and shoegaze, the band’s debut adopted a lo-fi, breezy, homegrown sound, which evolved into a more polished, post-punk, textured approach for their sophomore LP, 2013’s Clash the Truth. Intermittent touring aside, Beach Fossils have been a bit quiet the last couple of years, though they recently popped up on HBO series Vinyl to portray members of a fictional ’70s punk band, The Nasty Bits. Hard at work on their third full-length, the record is expected to arrive sometime this year on Payseur’s own Bayonet Records, those its evolution in sound is anyone’s guess. Their long-gestating new music is just one of the many reasons that Beach Fossils should be on your must-see list at this summer’s fest!
