Formed in 1993 in El Paso, Texas, post-hardcore pioneers At the Drive-In helped shape a scene that still thrives today, and, while they weren’t as celebrated in their day as they seem to be posthumously, by the time their third and final LP, Relationship of Command, arrived in 2000, the world was beginning to catch on to their importance. Shortly after its release, ATDI dissolved, giving way to various other projects, most prominently The Mars Volta and Sparta.
For many years, a reunion seemed unlikely; singer Cedric Bixler and guitarist Omar Rodríguez especially appeared to have moved on musically and personally, and tensions persisted between various bandmates. However, in 2012, the group resolved their issues, and reconvened for a summer of shows and high-profile festival outings. That run was short-lived though, and since then At the Drive-In have largely been dormant, at times providing conflicting hints as to whether or not the band may have a future.
With little fanfare, ATDI were added to Ohio’s Rock on the Range Festival a couple months back, then Atlanta’s Shaky Knees, confirming that something was certainly brewing for 2016. We’ve been waiting impatiently for weeks, hoping for some clarification and/or additional show announcements, and today the band have FINALLY broken their silence!! Not only are At the Drive-In back, but they’re back in a big way, with the promise of new music (their first since 2000) and the announcement of a world tour (dates below), which, surprise, will stop at Nashville’s own Marathon Music Works on May 17!!!
Tickets go on sale Friday, Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. CST right here, and they are guaranteed to go lightning fast. If you need us we’ll be busy blasting their discography until May.
