After an unbelievably huge (and entirely well-deserved) 2015, local grunge pop group Bully are returning home for their first Nashville show of the new year, Jan. 22 at The Basement East! This marks the band’s first time performing at the east side’s new favorite haunt, and it’ll be extra rad with local rockers Music Band and Chicago’s Fake Limbs on the bill. Tickets are still available – for now – but we’re so excited to welcome Bully home, that we’re giving away a pair! Read on to find out more about the lineup, and enter for a chance to win below!
BULLY
Throughout their earliest shows in 2013, buzzyworthy DIY releases and local domination in 2014, and subsequent signing, major label full-length debut, and well-earned international acclaim in 2015, watching local grunge pop group Bully rightfully ascend to become one of modern rock and roll’s most important acts has been an immensely gratifying journey. Led by singer/songwriter/producer Alicia Bognanno, a former intern of beloved producer Steve Albini, Bully, despite their big label pedigree have always been, and largely remain, a fiercely organic, self-sufficient unit. Since their earlier 7″ efforts, self-released self-titled EP, and last year’s full-length debut, Feels Like, which landed on more year end lists than we can count (including on top of our own), the band have always managed to find a balance between ’90s alt-rock and grunge nostalgia, pop sensibilities, punk attitude, and modern indie flair, cemented by Bognanno’s unparalleled ear for production and biting musical sensibilities. They’re at home performing with legacy and contemporary indie and punk acts, quickly becoming a festival favorite, and, with attention beyond just media praise, their music featured on outlets like television commercials, video games, and late night TV, the group seem poised to become a certifiable household name this year. If you read this site, we don’t need to tell you: Bully might be the most important rock band to emerge from Nashville in years, and any chance to see them perform at home is sure to be an unforgettable time.
MUSIC BAND
A long time site favorite, grungy, psyched-out garage rock trio Music Band have called Nashville home for half a decade now, and have become a staple in the local scene, with their laid back, undeniable cool sound and vibe. They’re a no-brainer to add some extra special local flair to this bill, and have never been anything less than stellar when we’ve caught them live. The group’s last record, Can I Live, is about to turn two, so we wouldn’t be surprised if some new tunes are on display.
FAKE LIMBS
On the road with Bully for a short trek of their national tour, Chicago’s Fake Limbs pull influence from noise rock, late ’80s alternative, ’70s fuzz, and old school punk, among other things, to craft their eclectic, driving sound. They’re loud and intense, with an explosive live show to match, and couldn’t be better suited to get the rock energy flowing. This will be the band’s first Nashville show ever, so show up early and welcome them to town!
