After blowing minds at Mercy Lounge last week, we got the sad message on Facebook (and via publicist) that genre spanning local outfit, Those Darlins, are planning an “indefinite haitus” following a short tour in January. Those Darlins originally formed in 2006 by Jessi Zazu, Nikki Kvarnes, and Kelley Anderson (who originally all used the last name “Darlin”), and Linwood Regensburg soon became a permanent member. They represented a first wave in the modern “New Nashville” that bands and media outlets are abuzz over these days. They showed an incredible range from their punk/twang self-titled debut to the more polished, almost radio ready Screws Get Loose to their highly acclaimed final record Blur The Line (which arguably garnered more press for their awesome nude promo stunt over Grimey’s). As No Country first got it’s start, it was bands like Those Darlins that were helping to carry the torch for the growing Nashville underground music scene, and we followed them, amongst others, to where we are today. With the talent of the remaining Darlins (Jessi, Nikki, and Linwood), it is likely that they will land in another project sooner rather than later, and let’s just hope that their spirit will sprout three more bands that can continue to lead our creative community forward.
You can read the Facebook post from Those Darlins below, and make sure you mark your calendar for their “last show” at The Basement East on Jan. 29. We’ll have more details on that as it approaches, but you should go ahead and grab your $12 tickets right here.
