Returning to Nashville for the first time in two years, breakout electronic rock act AWOLNATION play War Memorial Auditorium for the first time tonight, Dec. 4, along with two decidedly more alt rock-leaning bands Highly Suspect and Red Sun Rising. Co-presented by local alternative station 102.9 The Buzz, and billed as “The Buzz Swanky Sweater Christmas Jam,” tickets for this pre-holiday party are still available right here. Read on for details, and find out more about the lineup below!
AWOLNATION
If you’re not familiar with LA’s AWOLNATION, you must have spent these last few years living under a rock, because the electro/alternative dance band, fronted by Aaron Bruno, have been nearly inescapable, thanks to mega hits like “Sail” and “Kill Your Heroes.” Formed out of the fallout of Bruno’s previous projects, Under the Influence of Giants and Hometown Hero, the band have released two massively successful full-lengths on Red Bull Records, garnering mainstream attention, aligning with the EDM community, and proving to be Bruno’s most successful effort to date. Aside from a Bonnaroo appearance, AWOLNATION have only played Nashville once, two years ago at Marathon Music Works, so this marks your first chance to see them play tunes from their latest effort, this year’s Run. What began as a studio experiment, AWOLNATION exploded onto the scene in 2011 with Megalithic Symphony, which produced 6x platinum certified mega-hit “Sail,” putting the band on the map. Heavily electronic, sometimes borderline industrial, and EDM-infused, their unprecedented rise to fame seems not only well-timed, but well-earned. The group’s more traditional band-based background gives them a more engaging edge over some their EDM-rooted peers, so come see what they’re all about at War Memorial!
HIGHLY SUSPECT
Brooklyn based, Massachusetts bred rockers Highly Suspect combine a hard rock and alternative rock rooted sound with punk swagger to produce upbeat, energetic, and unwavering tunes. Kind of a weird fit to support AWOLNATION, we’re nonetheless incredibly excited to see their name on the bill, after witnessing their uncontrollable turn at Bonnaroo this year. Though they’ve been putting out music and touring relentlessly for about half a decade, the band only really started picking up national steam this year, thanks to their bombastic debut full-length Mister Asylum, and especially breakout single “Lydia.”
RED SUN RISING
Opening up the show, Akron, OH based Red Sun Rising are a straight up alt rock force to be reckoned with. Their latest effort, Polyester Zeal, dropped over the summer, so give it a spin and be sure to show up early to see what they’re all about.
AWOLNATION, Highly Suspect, and Red Sun Rising will perform tonight, Dec. 4 at War Memorial Auditorium. The show is all ages, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available to purchase for $29.50-34.50.
