Austin-based stoner metal foursome The Sword will be bringing its sound and fury to Exit/In on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 9pm. (Doors open at 8pm; this event is 18 and over.) With psychedelic rockers Royal Thunder scheduled to open, this show is sure to be a mind-blowing, face-melting return to Nashville. The Sword has been pummeling audience ears since the mid-aughts and has shared stages with such hard rock titans as Metallica, Ozzy, and Motörhead. Grab your $16 tickets here, and head below to read more.

THE SWORD

Launching with their heavily hyped 2006 debut, Age of Winters, The Sword has long carried the torch for riff-heavy, high concept stoner metal, as song titles like “March of the Lor” and “Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians” suggest. They even covered Led Zep’s immortal “Immigrant Song” for a split EP in 2007. That said, this is one metal act that’s not afraid to lay into some good old fashioned boogie when necessary, and nowhere is that more in evidence than this year’s High Country, where one can make out strong doses of ZZ Top and Thin Lizzy amid the usual Black Sabbath/Blue Cheer/Captain Beyond swirl.  Bang your head to the official video for “Cloak of Feathers” from 2013’s Apocryphon:

ROYAL THUNDER

Atlanta-based Royal Thunder traffic in dark psychedelia that sets itself apart from the rest of the herd with the ace vocals of bassist/singer Miny Parsonz. As the rest of the band builds a slide guitar-heavy froth, Parsonz can go from Grace Slick cool to Ann Wilson bombast within the space of a single line, resulting in some serious drama. Check out “Forget You” from this year’s Crooked Doors:

The Sword and Royal Thunder will perform Nov. 24 at Exit/In. The show is 18 and over, begins at 9pm (doors at 8pm), and tickets are available for $16 in advance or $18 at the door.
