Out in support of one of the year’s best releases, British art rock outfit Django Django are set to play Nashville proper for the first time ever tonight, Nov. 3 at Cannery Ballroom with Wild Belle. The band’s hypnotic 2012 debut, Django Django, remains one of our favorite efforts of that year, and their latest, Born Under Saturn, has been on heavy rotation for months. As fantastic and eclectic live as they are in recording, you’ll want to head here to grab your tickets now, and read on for more about the show!
DJANGO DJANGO
By all accounts Django Django, a British art rock/neo-psychedelia band who met in art school in Edinburgh, before relocating to London, never expected to explode so far beyond their DIY roots. But the 2012 release of their unparalleled self-titled, full-length debut, universally praised and beloved by both fans and critics alike, helped catapult the foursome to sudden and well-deserved worldwide recognition, enabling them to tour the globe and grow tremendously over the past several years. They wowed us two years ago at Bonnaroo, but, in their many travels, have yet to play Nashville proper. Better late than never, as the eclectic group hit Music City next month in support of their expansive, more ambitious sophomore effort, Born Under Saturn. Forged from several years of performing in larger-than-life settings, Saturn is once again helmed by drummer and producer Dave Maclean, showcasing an increased confidence and thematic focus on growth and rebirth. The group’s live show is as immersive and artistically honed as both records, and their Nashville debut promises to be well-worth the wait.
WILD BELLE
Chicago’s Wild Belle rose to prominence with their buzzworthy 2013 debut, Isles. Though they share some of Django’s more electronic and indie influences, they pull from a broader spectrum of jazz, reggae, and soul music as well, making their exact sound hard to perfectly articulate. Made up of siblings Elliot and Natalie Bergman, Wild Belle are currently prepping to release a followup LP: Dreamland. Expect to hear some new tunes at Cannery.
Django Django and Wild Belle will perform tonight, Nov. 3 at Cannery Ballroom. The show is 18+, begins at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available to purchase for $20.
