Tonight! Tuesday, August 4! You won’t want to miss out on what’s sure to be one of the most talked about sets of this year – Jamie xx. Due to his exploding popularity, the show had to be moved from its original location at Exit/In to the more spacious Marathon Music Works. That he no longer fits in Exit/In is no surprise; he’s one third of one of the fastest rising bands of the last half decade in The xx, and his solo DJ career has taken off since the release of his long awaited debut album In Colour. Come see what all the hype is about tonight at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.). What else are you going to be doing on a Tuesday night? Read more about Jamie xx and opener Mike Simonetti after the jump!
JAMIE XX
Hailing from London, Jamie xx (real name, Jamie Smith) might have made his name with his day job as member of The xx, but lately he has proven his worth as a solo artist to be reckoned with. He started branching out in 2009, where the “Jamie xx” name was born. Since then, he’s already released a collaborative EP with legendary poet and singer Gil Scott-Heron, remixed everyone from Radiohead to Adele, produced tracks for Drake and Alicia Keys, his debut album In Colour was a critically acclaimed success and its “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” is one of the Official Songs of Summer 2015. The atmosphere found on In Colour is unmatched in any other album this year – it’s a downtempo party that you wouldn’t want to miss. Well, tonight is your chance to be there and party with one of the most in-demand DJs around today.
MIKE SIMONETTI
A staple of the NYC underground electronic scene for almost 20 years, Mike Simonetti also co-founded Italians Do It Better, one of the most influential electronic labels of the past decade. He’s been DJing in the NYC area since 1997, where his 8 hour “Rubulad” sets are legendary. More recently, he released his debut album Capricorn Rising in 2011, and has been touring the world ever since. Tonight is your chance to step into the NYC club scene, even if just for a night.
Jamie xx and Mike Simonetti will perform August 4 at Marathon Music Works. The show is 18+, begins at at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.), and tickets are available for $25 here.
