We told you a couple of months ago that Kevin Devine was set to return to Music City after his last appearance got canceled due to shitty weather. Now the time is finally here, so if you haven’t made Friday night plans, or even if you have, switch some things around and head to The High Watt to catch him with Mel Washington.
KEVIN DEVINE
Kevin Devine is one of those songwriters whose style is hard to nail down; his catalog contains every sound from mellow acoustic to loud, fuzzy rock, and has a knack for writing about social and political issues (he recently recorded a song called “Freddie Gray Blues”). His versatility makes him an incredible performer, and we’re happy to get another chance to see him tonight. Check out the video below for the title track from Bubblegum, his most recent release, which was produced by Brand New’s Jesse Lacey.
MEL WASHINGTON
One of the founding members of southern rock outfit All Get Out and newly located to Nashville via Charleston, SC, Mel Washington has a deep, soulful voice that blends well with the southern rock sounds of his first release, Houses, and the folky, indie-electronica of this year’s Black Excellence. With his music heavily influenced by social issues, it makes sense that he would be paired to open for Devine.
Kevin Devine and Mel Washington will perform tonight at The High Watt. The show is 18+, begins at at 9pm (doors at 8pm), and tickets are available for $16.
