Folk singer Rhiannon Giddens of the critically acclaimed string band the Carolina Chocolate Drops released her T Bone Burnett-produced debut solo album Tomorrow Is My Turn to rave reviews earlier this year and has just been announced she’s making a stop at Marathon Music Works on Wednesday, Oct. 7 in support . Tomorrow Is My Turn is a collection of covers of songs that have either been written by or covered definitively by women in Americana music who Giddens admires. The idea for the album spun out of her very successful performance of Odetta’s “Water Boy” at the Another Place, Another Time concert curated by Burnett, and it includes songs from Dolly Parton, Nina Simone, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe among others. If you’ve seen Giddens with the Carolina Chocolate Drops, picking the banjo and fiddle, this album is more heavily focused on her considerable talents as a singer.
The tickets for the show go on sale this Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m. here. Click through to see Giddens performing Patsy Cline’s classic “She’s Got You.”
