New band alert! New local supergroup Broken Bats just graced The Cream with their debut single “Leather” yesterday in advance of their debut EP release today. The band is comprised of Matt “Friction” Bell from Pink Spiders, Future Unlimited drummer Gabe Pigg, Denver Dalley from Desaparecidos, and Tony Smith from Sleeper Agent, and the EP was recorded at The Bomb Shelter in East Nashville. Needless to say that is a resume for rock, and, with a listen to the new album, you’ll agree as it explores a number of rock takes leaning from bright alt rock to wailing guitar riffs. Based on our first listen, it sounds like a band that Dave Grohl would have taken the time to educate you about in an episode of Sonic Highways.
Stream the EP below, and pick up a copy wherever you buy digital tunes. Also, mark your calendar, because they have a couple of local gigs coming up. First off, they are set to open for Fidlar and Metz at Mercy Lounge on May 14th, and then they are billed as part of the May Day festivities at The Basement East over Memorial Day weekend. Mark your calendars and get in the know, because this is not the last you’ll hear from Broken Bats.
