This Weekend In Nashville, September 28-30

Man, it is another big weekend of music around these here parts.  We’ve already told you about that Polica & Canon Blue show over at Mercy Lounge.  Our contributor Andrew will be running down that Reptar, Rubblebucket, Cherub show over at War Memorial Auditorium tonight a little later on today.  We’ve also talked pah-lenty about that little Starry Nights Festival that is going on about an hour up the road near Bowling Green, KY.  A shout out to our winner Ryan M., and a thank you to all of you who participated in our ticket giveaway for that.

So, without further ado, let’s get to Nashville’s weekend lineup.  Get out and see some live music!

Friday

Running a very close second for me (I’m actually still undecided) to Poliça and Canon Blue is Wild Nothing, DIIV, & Ponychase over at Exit/In tonight.  Wild Nothing is the dream pop act fronted by Jack Tatum.  They burst onto the scene with a cover of Kate Bush’s “Cloudbusting” back in 2009, and followed that up with his first full length Gemini in 2010.  Gemini burst him into the national spotlight after being named to Pitchfork’s Top 50 Records of 2010.  He’s followed that up with this year’s release Nocturn.  You can have a listen to the cover that got it all started below.  You also have Beach Fossils off-shoot DIIV and Nashville’s Ponychase to get things started.  You can have a listen to DIIV’s “Doused” below to get an idea of what they are about.  Tickets are $10, and you can grab those here.

Saturday

Musicians Corner gets things going again in Centennial Park with The Farewell Drifters, The Black Lillies, Shannon Whitworth, and The Rival, Seth Philpott (acoustic), Rebecca Roubin (acoustic), and The Little Bear (acoustic).  Definitely would recommend checking out The Little Bear, who dropped this doozy of a Live and Reel Session last year around this time.  Tickets are not needed for this one, and things kick off around 3pm.

If you need a little more horsepower in your day, then I would recommend PseudoMoto Rally w/ Mystery Twins, Ben Spinks Supermelt, Ranch Ghost, Acorn Bcorn, Richie, and Lantern going on over at Zombieshop.  Things get started with some sort of motorcycle rally starting at Noon at Zombieshop.  UPDATE: Due to circumstances outside the control of Zombieshop all post-ride activities and the music have been moved to The Stone Fox.  The music gets rolling around 6pm, and $10 gets you all the beer you can drink (not sure the $10-all-you-can-drink will be honored at The Stone Fox).  Have a listen to Mystery Twins’ covering Leonard Cohen’s “I’m Your Man” below.  More info is on this Facebook page.

Saturday night is a toss up with Lord Huron w/ Waterfall Wash at The High Watt or Stars w/ Diamond Rings and California Wives at Mercy Lounge… or you could just be a baller and go back and forth to both.  Lord Huron was last in town about a year ago playing with GIVERS, and it’s a pretty interesting take on Paul Simon-esque folk pop.  Nashville upstarts Waterfall Wash start things off over there around 8:30, and they are partially staffed by our contributor Andrew (shameless promotion time).  Stars, Diamond Rings, and California Wives definitely bring a bit more of an electro-synth-pop if your ass feels the need to move faster.  You can have a listen to Lord Huron’s “Time to Run” and Stars “The Theory Of Relativity” to help you make your decision.  I’d still opt for both!  Tickets are at Mercy’s website.

Sunday

The show for Sunday night is without a doubt Nick Waterhouse with The Allah-Las at The High Watt.  Waterhouse reminds me of a hipster Ray Charles who wants to find something that will fit into one of those Heineken commercials, which is to say that he has a sound that fully embraces the pop culture right now.  The Allah-Las harken that 60’s psychedelic surf rock sound, and do it with the panache of youthful exuberance.  Check back later today, because I’m thinking that we are going to do a ticket giveaway for this one!  If you don’t like to wait, you can grab tickets here.  You can check out Nick Waterhouse’s “I Can Only Give You Everything” and the Allah-Las 7-inch “Tell Me (What’s On Your Mind)” below.
