By now we hope you’ve heard, our live events production wing, No Country Presents, has taken up residence at Lower Broadway’s hippest new restaurant, lounge, retail, and event space, Acme Feed & Seed, where we’ve been bringing you a weekly, FREE, Tuesday night showcase, featuring some of our favorite emerging local and national talent. The curated showcase runs from 7 to 10 p.m. each week, and, so far, has featured everything from folk to funk to rock to indie. Our next installment, on Tuesday, March 10, is an extra special week, because we’re hosting John Davis’s new band, The Lees of Memory, for their first show ever!!! Additionally, the bill features locals Chrome Pony and DNK, and we’re bidding all three bands farewell as they depart for SXSW in Austin. Keep reading to find out all about them, and cancel any other plans you might have Tuesday night, because you’re coming to hang with us. Got it?
THE LEES OF MEMORY
If you really want to get to know The Lees of Memory, we suggest listening to the two-hour episode of our podcast we recorded with frontman John Davis last summer (embedded below). Of note, John also wrote and recorded the theme music for the podcast, and for that we’re eternally grateful. Best known for fronting Superdrag, Davis has assembled an all-star team of musicians for his latest project, and their debut LP, Sisyphus Says (produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who we also chatted with on the podcast), which dropped last year on SideOneDummy (and on cassette through Burger Records), is an incredible, nostalgic, alt rock romp, with tons of indie and shoegaze undertones. Rounding out The Lees are Brandon Fisher (ex-Superdrag) and Nick Slack (EPIC DITCH), along with recent additions Sam Powers (Century Club, Carter Administration, Superdrag), Ethan Luck (Kings Of Leon, Demon Hunter), and Josiah Holland (The Lonely Hearts). As we stated in the intro, this is officially the band’s FIRST SHOW EVER, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have them. If ever there was a week to come down to Acme, make it this one. You won’t regret it.
CHROME PONY
A longtime site favorite, locals Chrome Pony, like The Lees of Memory, are also set to make the trek to Austin for SXSW. Founded by Indiana-bred brothers Tyler and Kyle Davis (no relation to John Davis, by the way), Chrome Pony pull influences from psychedelic, punk, garage, and good old fashioned rock and roll, culminating in a fantastic, fuzzy, and fiercely original voice of their own. The group’s latest EP, You Are the Pisces, dropped last year, and they have plans to release at least one new record this year.
DNK
Pop/rap duo DNK are, without a doubt, one of the freshest and most eclectic acts to emerge from Nashville in recent memory. Comprised of singer David Davis and rapper Kayla Erb, the group’s sound is energetic, endlessly catchy, and unabashedly poppy (think Bruno Mars meets Macklemore). Their self-titled, debut EP is already generating buzz, and, with a sound so polished, and a radio-ready appeal baked in from the get-go, we full expect to see DNK explode into the mainstream very soon. Show up early, so you can say you saw them at Acme first.
The Lees of Memory, Chrome Pony, and DNK will perform Tuesday, March 10 at Acme Feed & Seed. The show is 21+, music begins at 7 p.m., and, per usual, it’s totally FREE. Downtown PARKING can sometimes be an issue. However, if you’re willing to walk a few blocks, street parking is typically easy to find on the numbered avenues south of Broadway, or along Korean Veterans Blvd. Metered spaces are often free after 6 p.m.
