Following the departure of producer, guitarist, and founding member Chris Walla, beloved indie rock outfit Death Cab For Cutie are entering 2015 as the start of an entirely new chapter. Earlier this month, the group reveled that their highly anticipated eighth album would be called Kintsugi, and is set to arrive March 31 via Atlantic. And, not only have Death Cab just given us the first taste of what it will sound like in the form of new single “Black Sun,” but they’ve also announced a spring run of theater dates with The Antlers in support, including an April 29 return to The Ryman Auditorium. Tickets are set to go on sale this Friday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m. CST, with a pre-sale beginning one day prior. But wait, there’s more: we’re incredibly excited to announce that we’re giving away a pair of tickets, so read on for details and enter below!

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE

Though they had already made their mark in the indie rock community over several years and releases prior, it was 2003’s Trasatlanticism that first helped transform Death Cab For Cutie into certifiable rock stars. Subsequent records Plans, Narrow Stairs, and Codes and Keys would only help cement their legacy, though, more than a decade later, they’re at something of a career crossroads. For the first time ever, with their upcoming album Kintsugi, the band have shied out of their comfort zone, and worked with an outside producer, Rich Costey. And, though he was present during the writing and recording stage, the departure of longtime guitarist Chris Walla has forced them to forge on as a trio, and to, presumably, find some new balance in how they present themselves live. One of the most celebrated acts of the last decade, Death Cab’s lyrically-sharp, alt rock informed, pop accessible flavor of indie rock has managed to strike a chord with countless fans worldwide, all while maintaining credibility for being sincere and uncompromising songwriters. If ever there was a band that could survive and flourish amidst significant changes, it’s this one, and they know it: Kintsugi is actually a Japanese term for the philosophy of embracing, rather than attempting to hide, flaws when treating breakage and repair, and a more perfect title couldn’t have been selected to represent the latest era of Death Cab.

THE ANTLERS

Brooklyn’s The Antlers clearly harbor a similar set of influences to Death Cab, though they tend to explore slightly more downtempo, layered, and atmospheric compositions. Originally conceived as a solo project, the trio have been a proper band for several years now, and their latest album, Familiars, is, undoubtedly, their most ambitious and best effort to date. They’re a wonderfully paired opener for this tour, and most definitely warrant your early arrival.
