Sexx

Local independent label Palaver Records are putting on a showcase of some their talent at Exit/In this Saturday, Dec. 20, so come blow off some pre-holiday steam with surf punks Sexx, experimental math metal punks Look What I Did, undead sisters The Dead Deads, and alternative rockers Indulgist. You might recognize the name Palaver from the Thursday night shindigs the label throws at east side dive fooBAR, but, now, they’re taking over a bigger venue. With a diverse group of local rock bands lined up for just $5, no reason not to vent some Christmas stress. Sexx have even promised to play their new song “Santa Can’t Die!,” which promises to be a cathartic experience at this time of year.

SEXX

Sexx are one of Palaver’s biggest bands, with their high-energy live shows gaining buzz around town and their single “Surf City” getting rotation on Lightning 100 this summer as well as a video release. They play infectious party rock influenced by punk and surf music and have promised to perform their new Christmas song “Santa Can’t Die!” What better way to get in the holiday spirit with one of Nashville’s favorite rock and roll bands? The group are currently at work on a full-length effort to be released on Palaver.

LOOK WHAT I DID

Look What I Did are locals and longtime scene staples who combine a variety of genres including punk, alternative, metal, and hardcore. Over the summer, the band released their very own rock opera, titled Zanzibar III: Analog Prison. They like creepy aesthetics, thought provoking lyrics, and screamy choruses, and just might make you feel like it’s Halloween instead of Christmas.

THE DEAD DEADS

The Dead Deads are an all-girl glam-punk-metal outfit composed of five women musicians who came together as sisters and took the last name Dead when they formed á la the brotherhood of ’70s punk band The Ramones. They perform with x’s over their eyes to signify their state in the afterlife and approach their music with the same kind of dark, campy fun.

INDULGIST

Alternative rock quintet Indulgist just released a new EP this fall called Emerald Glow, which sounds like late nineties post-grunge and might make you think the past 15 years didn’t even happen as the new one all-too-swiftly approaches.

Sexx, Look What I Did, The Dead Deads, and Indulgist will perform Saturday, December 20 at Exit/In. The show is 18+, begins at at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available for $5.
