Following a successful fall outing at Live on the Green, Augustana are set to return to Mercy Lounge for the second time this year on Saturday, Dec. 20, with Scars on 45. Celebrating the release of their new album, Life Imitating Life, the group, which primarily consists of frontman/songwriter Dan Layus, are celebrating something of a renaissance, and, as sometimes Nashville residents, their Music City shows are always memorable. AUGUSTANA
Since exploding onto the scene with smash single “Boston” nearly a decade ago, indie/pop/roots rockers Augustana have quietly become one of the most varied, dynamic, and hardworking bands around. Following the departure of all of the group’s core members save for singer-songwriter Dan Layus in 2011, Augustana have definitively entered a new chapter of being, which will kicked off with their latest album Life Imitating Life, which dropped last spring through new label home Washington Square/Razor & Tie. Formed in Southern California but now based here in Nashville, Augustana conjure deeply personal and heartfelt themes, coupled with poppy and accessible arrangements. Life, the group’s fourth full-length, is undeniably their most personal, cohesive, and polished effort to date, and their two most recent performances, a spring show at Cannery and a spot at Live on the Green, were unforgettable. Show Layus some (new) hometown support, and be there to witness a whole new Augustana.
SCARS ON 45
Though they hail from England, indie rockers Scars from 45 made their way to Music City not too long ago, with a spot on Lightning 100’s fall Blocktoberfest. Out in support of their latest release, Safety in Numbers, the group have amassed a rabid fan base though their engaging live show, and promise to bring an element of diversity to this bill.
Augustana and Scars on 45 will perform Saturday, Dec. 20 at Mercy Lounge. The show is 18+, begins at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.), and tickets are available for $15-18.
