Here we go again. It’s seem like this week just flew by, but, hey, we’re not complaining. It’s party time, and this weekend we have another chock full slate of shows, most of which you can see for free! Let us help you plan your weekend music fix with our staff picks in another edition of TWiN below!
FRIDAY
AFTERLIFE PARADE
@ The Pour House | 6:30pm | Free | All Ages
Afterlife Parade have been popping up a lot in the No Country feed, and with good reason. This week, Afterlife Parade is Lightning 100’s Artist of the Week, which is no small accomplishment – especially for a band that has more than 9 members. If you’ve missed any of their previous shows, now is your chance to get caught up with the phenomenon. [BM]
LANGHORNE SLIM W/ BOOM FOREST AND BUFFALO RODEO
@ The Basement | 8pm | $3 | 21+
Pennsylvania born, modern day troubadour Langhorne Slim is bringing his alt-country, garage Americana to The Basement tonight and we couldn’t be more excited. He now calls Nashville home, so make sure you get out to support the latest and one of the greatsts transplants to hit our streets. East Nashvillian experimental folksters Boom Forest and Bowling Green, KY, indie progressive rockers Buffalo Rodeo fill out an amazing bill that is only $3!!! However, bring some extra dough for drinks because it will definitely get rowdy. [JR]
KATY PERRY W/ CAPITAL CITIES
@ Bridgestone Arena | 7:30pm | $29.50-$130 | All Ages
California pop princess, Katy Perry, reigns over Nashville tonight, with her Prismatic World Tour stopping in at Bridgestone Arena. Look for a highly intricate stage production with no shortage of dancers, effects, lights and costume changes. LA indietronica, synthpopers Capital Cities will kick things off for this all ages, glitter infested affair, so get there early, you know, if this is your short of thing. [JR]
ELEL W/ THE BEECH BENDERS AND EXPLORER’S CLUB
@ The Stone Fox | 9pm | $5 | 18+
This show was originally dubbed as the release show for the debut ELEL album Geode, but rumor has it that the impressive local indie-pop sensations may have some interested labels poking around that is going to keep that album in the vault for a bit longer. Jokingly, the band tells us that they may release a dove named “Album” into the night sky to live up to the name. Guess you will just have to show up to see what sort of shenanigans they pull off. The Beech Benders and Explorer’s Club start thing off for what should be a sure fire Friday night good time! [MH]
SHIH TZU NAMI, SWITCHMEN, BLACK DIAMOND STRINGS, CHAZ MCKINNEY
@ fooBar | 8pm | $5 | 21+
The award for best band name on Friday night goes to Bowling Green KY rockers Shih Tzu Nami, and the best image of 2014 may be the cover photo on their Facebook page. They’ll be joined by local rockers Switchmen, Black Diamond Strings, and Chaz McKinney. For a mere $5, this one will not only rock you, but leave a bit of scratch in your pocket from some cheap beers! [MH]
BLACK FLAG W/ ROYAL WE AND CINEMA CINEMA
@ Exit/In | 7pm | $15 | 18+
We already gave you the full rundown on punk legends Black Flag‘s current incarnation, which features only original guitarist Greg Ginn, is this previous announcement post. Ginn’s own solo/side project The Royal We are set to open, as is New York duo Cinema Cinema. While it’s not quite as exciting as seeing the Henry Rollins flavor of the group, it’s technically still Black Flag’s first Nashville show in 30 years, and is sure to be a rowdy fun time. [PO]
DAVE RAWLINGS MACHINE
@ Ryman Auditorium | 8pm | $30-35 | All Ages
Legendary blue grass, old-time Americana folkster Dave Rawlings and his backing band The Machine bring their brand of finger pickin’ to Ryman Auditorium for a show we are shocked hasn’t sold out. His mellow string arrangements and his trademark 1935 Epiphone Olympic Guitar are a nice fit for the Mother Church Of Country Music and it’s pitch perfect acoustics. Look for him to pull out all the stops at what is sure to be a memorable show at possibly our favorite venue in town. [JR]

@ Exit/In | 8pm | $10 | 18+
Who doesn’t like the Talking Heads? No one, that’s who. Led by David Byrne, the group produced some of the most memorable tunes of the 80’s and were so popular that a Knoxville based tribute group, Same As It Ever Was: A Talking Heads Tribute, formed in an effort to keep playing the band’s tunes alive. While some cover acts border on cheesy, Same As It Ever Was is actually a pretty faithful representation of the original act, and bring much of the same energy and engaging attitude in their live show.
