Just like last year and the year before, we’re making it our mission to help you get acquainted with as many bands as we can from Bonnaroo‘s impressive 2014 lineup. In addition to main stage acts, we also want to be sure to give the Club Stage bands some love, so, for the next month or so, we’re adding a second daily spotlight. They might be the smallest artists on Bonnaroo’s bill, but the Club Stage bands are some of the best and most exciting up and coming acts around. As with our main stage previews, we’ll start from the bottom and work our way up. Keep reading for your Bonnaroo Club Stage Band of the Day…
LEARN
Sometimes eating, sleeping, and breathing music leaves you a little jaded. For instance, we’ve seen most of the lineup at Bonnaroo this year in some form or fashion already… except Cayucas, and that makes this buzzy little surf pop band one of our most anticipated for Bonnaroo this summer. Formed in Santa Monica, CA by twin brothers Zach and Ben Yudin, Cayucas burst onto the scene last year around this time with the release of Bigfoot. We were in love from the first listen to the first single “Cayucas” that popped into the blogosphere, and, despite the inexplicably decent though snarky review from P4k with a terrible score, the album was our summer jam. Sure, the band definitely channels the vibe of Vampire Weekend, but who doesn’t need more than 20 songs in their mandatory poolside summer jams mixtape. Enter the second single, “High School Lover”, and you can feel every bit of that VW/Beck love child.
Cayucas has peppered their tropical summer pop through a variety of festivals at this point, but have not yet played anything drivable from Nashville until this year’s Bonnaroo. Cayucas has two sets (Saturday and Sunday) on The Farm this summer, and you can bet your sweet ass that we’ll be there to catch at least one of those sets. Have a listen to the first two singles from Bigfoot below, and find out why you need to add these guys to your Roo schedule immediately. If you aren’t going to Roo this year and this is your first introduction to Cayucas, welcome to the party, and you’re welcome for your new favorite band this summer.
