Pitchfork Releases their Top 100 tracks of 2011 with a Spotify playlist

We just gave you a very scant rundown of new music releases for this week.  However, we can also direct you to Pitchfork’s Top 100 tracks for 2011 that just released this morning.  That’s always a fun read.  To up the ante, Pitchfork also made some poor intern put all of those tracks together in a Spotify playlist for you.  If you need a Spotify invite (do you need those anymore?), we have a few leftover from back in the day, so just hit us up.

Anyway, we have talked about lots and lots of the artists in that list throughout the year, but the four artists that I want to point out to you now are M83, Cass McCombs, Neon Indian, and Purity Ring.

M83’s new record Hurry Up, I’m Dreaming had two tracks which made the list. “Intro (ft. Zola Jesus)” clocked in at #56, and “Midnight City” is holding onto the top spot in the poll.  M83 is playing Marathon Music Works on May 15th.

Cass McCombs just played The Basement with Lower Dens back in July.  That was when I first heard “County Line” which slid into the #8 spot in the 2011 poll.  Cass released a tour schedule for 2012 just yesterday, and I see that he is playing Nashville’s Foobar on January 18th.

Neon Indian released Era Extrana this year, and the track “Polish Girl” clocked in at an ironic #69.  Neon Indian will be playing Mercy Lounge on March 10th with Purity Ring.

Purity Ring released the track “Ungirthed” which garnered them quite a bit of blog recognition this year, and lead them into the #38 slot on the Pitchfork list.  Purity Ring will open for Neon Indian at Mercy Lounge on March 10th.

UPDATE: Drake just announced a North American tour today, and will have a stop in Nashville at Bridgestone on February 17th.  A$AP Rocky & Kendrick Lamar will open.  So, there’s even more from Pitchforks Top 100 list that will be playing Nashville in 2012.

2012 is upon us, folks.  Make some plans now to get out and see some great live music.
