HOUNHDMOUTH
When I say you can be the first kid on you’re block to know about this quartette from New Albany, Indiana, I’m not bullshitting. They’ve only been around since November of 2011. They’re touring in support of their debut album From the Hills Below the City released under the London, England indie label Rough Trade Records. Most importantly, and the selling point for me, they’ve already developed a small cult following in their home town and in Louisville, Kentucky which is directly across the river from their corner of Indiana.
Now I know there are at least a handful of you reading this who have already been hip to the Hound for awhile, but don’t be the person who one ups everyone with their music knowledge. Just share the wealth. Take it as a compliment, and support to the notion you have good taste in music. Know that you’re ahead of the curve but whatever you do don’t be jerk about it because even The Beatles will be ‘new’ to someone at some point in their lives.
Whether you are aware of it or not, the buzz is already building for Houndmouth, who have opened for the likes of the Drive-By Truckers (also playing Nashville this Sunday at the Cannery Ballroom) and The Lumineers. Don’t miss your chance at tickets, which you can purchase here. If you want a taste before the show watch the video with cool stop-motion animation below and buy their new album here. All that we ask is you keep your super-human ability to locate good, new music a secret if possible or just gloat quietly.
WHEELER BROTHERS
We caught Wheeler Brothers at the Forecastle Festival last summer to one of the more raucous (non-EDM) crowds at the entire festival. Steeped in Texas roasted rock n’ roll, these guys are tight with great stage presence, and should provide the perfect compliment to Houndmouth.
SCOTT CARNEY (WAX FANG)
We don’t know what the solo act Scott Carney is going to be like, but if it is anything like his band, Wax Fang, we’re all going to be in for a treat. Wax Fang is a perfect mix of all those rock sub-genres that we blogger types employ so liberally. In this instance, that would be art, experimental, folk, progressive, psych rock. Have a listen below, and you’ll get an idea of why this has the potential to be one of the most stacked lineups of the weekend.
Houndmouth, The Wheeler Brothers, and Scott Carney will perform tonight (11/8) at Mercy Lounge. The show is 18+, begins at 9pm (doors at 8), and tickets are available for $12.
