Hanni El Khatib

Garage-rocker Hanni El Khatib might be L.A.-based, but the bluesy singer/songwriter shirked West Coast-rock producers to record his sophomore album Head in the Dirt right here in Nashville. If you think his music sounds like the Black Keys, that would be due to the fact that Dan Auerbach produced the eclectic, 11-track album, which contains some of El Khatib’s strongest songs to date.  Hanni El Khatib returns to Nashville (he last played here in May with the Black Angels) with BRMC-openers Bass Drum of Death and our very own Bad Cop. Tickets are still available online right here, but, if you’re feeling lucky, you can enter to win a pair below! Keep reading for contest details, as well as more about all three bands!

HANNI EL KHATIB

Hanni El Khatib‘s sophomore effort Head in the Dirt is much more than another rock-throwback album.  A deeper listen reveals fuzzy, riff-laden tracks of a sensitive soul-rocker who might be a bit rough around the edges, but still reveals a softer side when he sings about his girl.  Check out his live performance of “Penny” below, and fall in love with the motown-inspired track.

BASS DRUM OF DEATH

Bass Drum of Death last played in Nashville opening for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and return to rock us again with songs from their new, self-titled album.  A sophomore album can often say much more than a band’s first, since as it’s often said that you have your whole life to write your first album, then a year to write the next.  In the two years that have passed since their 2011 debut GB City, Bass Drum of Death have proven they’ve lost none of their edge while creating a more polished product.  These fellas hail from Oxford, Mississippi, but sound like the spawn of Sonic Youth & Circle Jerks. Give a listen to their track “Bad Reputation” below.

BAD COP

If you haven’t heard about Bad Cop, you may have been literally hiding under a rock.  But never fear, here’s your chance to see them! These Nashville-based boys shake things up (literally), and are a perfect choice to round out this bad boy rocker lineup.  Bad Cop might have some Black Keys-love in their future, with Patrick Carney having recently chosen BC’s track “Light On” as a part of his “Serious Boredom” playlist on SiriusXMU. Check it out below:
