TV on the Radio and Broken Social Scene, Wednesday at The Ryman

Ok Nashville.  I’m blown away by this one.  TV On The Radio and Broken Social Scene are performing at The Ryman on Wednesday night.  How are tickets still available for this one?  This is a megashow…. two headliners on one bill at a one of a kind venue.  I’m truly flabbergasted (I love that word).  Just to let you know how big this bill is, they are splitting the acts apart for the west coast, and most of those single shows are sold out.  And, you get the chance to see them both together for one moderate price.

Maybe folks don’t know these bands, so let’s talk about them just a bit.

Broken Social Scene is a Canadian music collective (it’s hard to call them a band due to the constant rotation of musicians involved at any given time).  BSS founders, Kevin Drew & Brendan Canning, are the glue that hold this collection of musicians, historically ranging from 6 to 19 members, together.  Almost all of them work as solo artists or with other bands as side projects.  Most notably, members from BSS are associated with Apostle of Hustle, Junior Blue, Land of Talk, Metric, Stars, The Weakerthans, and, of course, (the iPod commercial famous) Feist.   BSS has played at almost every festival in North America and will be making stops this year at Austin City Limits in Texas, Rifflandia in Vancouver BC, and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco.  Their music has appeared in countless TV shows and movies.  I don’t really know who is going to show up to play on Wednesday night at The Ryman, but I am sure that it will be pretty amazing to hear the orchestration of these talented musicians in the sonically spectacular Ryman.

TV On The Radio is a Brooklyn, NY band that he been dropping records since 2003, and almost all of them have received enormous critical acclaim from practically every media outlet.  Their Return From Cookie Mountain was named Spin Magazine’s best album of 2006; and 2008’s Dear Science was the album of the year for Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Spin Magazine, The Onion AV Club, MTV, Entertainment Weekly, and Pitchfork’s Readers Poll.  They have had performances on Saturday Night Live, Letterman, Leno, The Colbert Report, and Later with Jools Holland.  They’ve toured the world with stops to headline a multitude of festivals.
