Once again, we’ve got a night so packed with great shows, we just couldn’t help but round them all up in one big preview post for you! If you can’t manage to find anything that piques your interest, well, citizen of Music City, you’re doing it wrong.

Check out our recommendations for this surprisingly stacked Wednesday:

FAMILY OF THE YEAR w/ The Mowgli’s
@ 3rd and Lindsley | 7PM (6PM doors) | All Ages | $10

If you’ve been keeping up with our Music on Television feature, you already know we’ve been raving about California indie pop band Family of the Year as they’ve made their recent late night rounds. Their sun-dripped, melodic, and infectious sound makes their return trip to Nashville our top recommendation for this evening. Don’t sleep on this amazing band! To sweeten the deal, The Mowgli’s (whose recent TV appearance we also plugged) are the perfect, catchy, west coast rock and roll compliment to Family of the Year’s sound. But you don’t have to take our word for it, just ask Lindsay Lohan. 😉

MAN OVERBOARD, THE STORY SO FAR w/ Tonight Alive, Citizen, The American Scene
@ The End | 6PM | All Ages | SOLD OUT

Man Overboard and The Story So Far are some of the freshest voices spearheading a new generation of revivalist pop punk bands (basically a crop of 20-somethings attempting to resurrect the early ’00s pop punk movement that lost its way in the late ’00s). They’ve found a harmonious balance between edgy, driving, distinctly punk and hardcore-leaning musicality, dripped with hooks and sing-alongs, and poppy, emotionally charged lyrics. They’ve also brought along three great and like-minded bands to round out their Suppy Nation tour. Unfortunately, this show is already sold out, but those of you who snagged a ticket in advance are in for a great night!

ROBERT GAY & THE ALARMS w/ Reid Magette, The Flea Marketeers
@ The High Watt | 9PM (8PM doors) | 18+ | $5

You may know Robert Gay as a member of VITEK, or from his collaborations with Colorfeels, Evan Donohue, and Natalie Prass, among other great local artists. The singer recently recently stepped out as a solo artist, and tonight he’s debuting his first album, When I Was Young, in a special pre-release performance! Even better? That paltry $5 admission charge also snags you a free copy of the CD before anyone else! Rounding out the bill is earnest and powerful rock and roller Reid Magette and eclectic, rootsy Americana group The Flea Marketeers!

CALE TYSON w/ Heidi Feek, Derek Hoke
@ The Basement | 9PM (8PM doors) | 21+ | $5

We know is says “no country” right there in our name but, truth be told, we’re suckers for quality, throwback country artists (it’s that overexposed, top 40 country that we think Nashville’s got more than enough of). Cale Tyson’s Nashville by way of Texas, whiskey-soaked, 1970’s golden age retro country sound is genuine enough to make us converts. Joined by fellow locals who also give us faith in Nashville country, Heidi Feek and Derek Hoke (who you might now as the host of The 5 Spot’s $2 Tuesdays), this is sure to be a good one!

LUKE WINSLOW-KING w/ Courtney Jaye
@ Exit/In | 9PM (8PM doors) | 18+ | $10

Luke Winslow-King has a knack for mixing his eclectic influences, ranging from old jazz, blues, ragtime, and delta-folk, with his more modern Americana sensibilities. His sound is wholly representative of the tradition of his New Orleans homebase, and King is especially noted for his slide guitar work and refined live chops. Making the bill a little sweeter, Nashville singer-songwriter Courtney Jaye will be performing ahead of the release of her much-anticipated new record Love and Forgiveness.
