[TICKET GIVEAWAY] Anderson East w/ Theo Katzman | Aug. 29 @ The Ryman Auditorium

Born Michael Anderson, famed local soul, R&B, and roots rocker Anderson East hails originally from Athens, Alabama, raised by a  religious and musically inclined family that led to a love of writing songs at a young age. Anderson first moved to the area nearly 20 years ago to attend college at MTSU, pursuing audio engineering, while also performing as a session musician and gigging around town. He self-released two records, Closing Credits for a Fire in 2009 and Flowers of the Broken Hearted in 2012, before a chance meeting with now-famed producer Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile) at the Bluebird Cafe, which led to an immediate friendship and working relationship. Cobb signed East to as the first act on his Low Country Sound imprint, and proceeded to produce his major label debut, Delilah, which arrived a decade ago in 2015, and helped propel Anderson to newfound critical and commercial heights, thanks to buzzy singles like “Satisfy Me.” In the decade since, East has jumped from a promising local up-and-comer to a bona fide star, selling out increasingly larger rooms in Nashville and across the nation, appearing at festivals and on late night talk shows, and opening for huge acts like Chris Stapleton. A contribution to the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack in 2017 helped further boost his recognition further, ahead of sophomore major label effort Encore, the following year, scoring hits like the Grammy-nominated “All On My Mind” and “This Too Shall Last,” and landing as the multifaceted performer’s most popular effort to date. A live album would follow, as well as another LP, Maybe We Never Die, in 2021, all capturing Anderson’s signature fusion of southern soul, Americana, R&B, roots rock, gospel, country, and blues, funneling a classic folk sensibility through an introspective modern lens.

For his latest album, Worthy, which arrived in the spring and again featured production from Cobb (despite being released by new label home Rounder Records), East sounds more confident, commanding, and musically adventurous than ever, incorporating more horns, musical collaborations, and vulnerable and self-reflective themes. In celebration, Anderson will headline The Ryman Auditorium on Aug. 29, along with eclectic singer-songwriter Theo Katzman, a show that feels long, long overdue (despite playing Music City all the time when he was a rising star in the 2010s, he hasn’t performed here as often in the 2020s, with his last headliner way back in 2021). Tickets are still available right here while they last, but we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Preview the performers and enter below.
