One of the defining bands of the garage rock revival of the early 2000s, Australia’s Jet formed in 2001, and became massive worldwide stars following the release their debut album, Get Born, in 2003. Though lumped in with peers like The Vines, The Hives, The White Stripes, and The Strokes, Jet’s sound was always a bit more retro than the rest, channeling the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and AC/DC (their name comes from a Wings song, and even the title of their first album is a Bob Dylan reference). Thanks to the massive success of early singles like “Cold Hard Bitch,” “Look What You’ve Done,” “Rollover D.J.,” and, most of all, ubiquitous breakout single “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” the band were EVERYWHERE in the early and mid-2000s, from opening for The Rolling Stones, being featured in a famous Apple ad campaign and in video game phenomenon Guitar Hero, charting worldwide and being heaped with awards (especially in Australia), and earning praise from many critics, all while playing hundreds of live dates and appearing at prominent festivals. Sophomore album Shine On, in 2006, would continue to perfect their retro garage and hard rock ethos, producing more popular tracks like “Hold On” and “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is,” and earning mostly positive receives, but by 2009 followup Shaka Rock, again well-liked and leading to more hits and world tours, the garage rock scene as a whole had fallen somewhat out of favor, and Jet- apparently dealing with personal issues and infighting- decided to disband a few years later, in 2012.
Jet first reunited in 2016, resuming touring and teasing plans for a new album, which ultimately never materialized, hitting pause once more a few years later as frontman Nic Cester resumed a solo career. But, again, just in time for the 20th anniversary of Get Born, the band reformed again in 2023, hitting the road for an anniversary run, and accepting an induction into Australia’s ARIA Hall of Fame. Finally, after announcing they were working in the studio a couple new songs (“Hurry Hurry” and “Un’Avventura”) arrived last year, with plans for their long-awaited fourth LP to drop later this year. After a Get Born anniversary tour last year, which brought them to The Basement East (their first Nashville show in many, many years, if not ever), the Aussies are back on the road again for another North American run, returning them to Music City on June 10 to headline The Ryman Auditorium! UK garage rockers Band of Skulls will open, and tickets are still available right here while they last. However, we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky winner; preview the lineup and enter below!
