‘Aquaman’ Star Jason Momoa Forms New Band ÖOF TATATÁ, Announces May 21 Show at Cannery Hall

Best known as a movie and television megastar in blockbuster projects like Dune, Game of Thrones, Aquaman, and Fast X, Hawaiian-born actor Jason Momoa has long been a big music enthusiast as well, expressing his love of heavy metal and beyond over the years, and taking up a variety of stringed instruments like guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and especially bass.

Bringing that love of music to the next level, Momoa recently formed a power trio called ÖOF TATATÁ with longtime friends Kenny Dale Borill and Mike Hayes, with Momoa on bass, Borill on drums, and Hayes on guitar and vocals. Seemingly springing out of nowhere (though long-simmering through two decades of friendship), the band played their first show ever just last month in New Zealand, at the wrap party for Jason’s upcoming movie Minecraft, prompting co-star (and accomplished musician in his own right) Jack Black to sit in for the gig, along with fellow Minecraft co-star Danielle Brooks and pop singer and actress Rita Ora (who resides in New Zealand with her husband, director Taika Waititi), covering classic tracks from the likes of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, The Stooges, and Jimi Hendrix.

Announcing their intention to tour, sponsored by Momoa’s Meili Vodka brand, ÖOF TATATÁ played their second show, and first in North America and open to the public, late last month in Bozeman, Montana, where the Meili distillery is located. And then, after teasing a forthcoming Nashville date, they surprise-announced earlier this week that show number three will take place at none other than Music City’s Cannery Hall (in the space of the former Cannery Ballroom) next week, on May 21! Tickets are already on sale right here, and though they haven’t yet sold out as of writing, they’re all but guaranteed to as soon as the word gets out, thanks to Jason’s star-power.

Based on what little we can glean from social media from their prior two shows though, these events are a genuine, unpretentious outlet of expression for three close friends who just love jamming together, and ÖOF TATATÁ are simply having a blast, slinging Meili cocktails, bringing good vibes, and giving fans a chance to see a well-known artist try out a whole new and exciting medium without any baggage or preconceived notions (not so dissimilar from Keanu Reeves’ recent tour with his ’90s passion project Dogstar). Though no other dates are yet on the books (and may well be last-minute announcements as with Nashville), Momoa has also teased shows in Austin, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Chicago, and Hawaii.

The trio don’t have any formal recordings out, but you can see a little preview of what to expect from their live show below!
