A favorite of ours since they first sprung onto the scene nearly 15 years ago with their debut LP North Hills, folk rock outfit Dawes emerged from Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon folk revival of the ’00s, dependably releasing new albums every year or two since- eight LPs in total as of 2022’s Misadventures of Doomscroller– expanding to include more influences of pop and rock in recent years. Though, for much of the run, the band appeared as a four-piece, the core has always been brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith (the former on guitar and vocals and the latter on drums), and after a couple of recent departures (most notably bassist Wylie Gelber, who played with the brothers from the start), they remain Dawes’ two official members.
Similarly, indie pop outfit Lucius, who formed in 2007, just a couple years before Dawes and were originally based out of New York, but have also called LA home for the last several years, are most visibly been helmed by a core duo of Jess Wolfe (vocals and synth bass) and Holly Laessig (vocals and keyboard), with guitarist Dan Molad and drummer Peter Lalish rounding out their lineup. They debuted with 2009’s Songs from the Bromley House, the same year as Dawes, but found a wider audience with 2013’s Wildewoman, praised for their lush, harmonically dense, and retro indie pop stylings. Sessions for group’s latest and fourth album, Second Nature, took place right here in Nashville, with writers Trent Dabbs and Lori McKenna, and two notable producers: Dave Cobb and Brandi Carlile.
No strangers to Nashville, with both regularly performing and recording in Music City over the years (just last year each played The Ryman, and Lucius made a special appearance at The Blue Room while Dawes played The Dive Motel), Dawes and Lucius are set to return soon, for a March 10 performance underground at The Caverns in nearby Pelham, TN, perhaps the area’s most unique performance space. Not just a co-headlining tour, the two groups will literally combine forces into one live band, performing each others’ songs together in one supersized set- something we’ve rarely seen artists on tour together do. One of the spring’s most unique live events, you can snag tickets, camping passes, cave tours, VIP upgrades, and more right here. However, we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets and a camping pass to one lucky fan! Check out the surreal stage in The Caverns, preview the performers, and enter below.
