While alt pop duo Between Friends formally began under their current moniker in 2017, the duo have been making music together in some form or another for nearly their entire lives, and that’s because they’re siblings and best friends, Brandon and Savannah Hudson. Though born in Miami, the Hudsons’ family relocated to Los Angeles when they were kids, where, despite the flourishing music scene and the historic nature of their Laurel Canyon neighborhood, they largely learned how to make music on the internet, displaying an early passion and aptitude for art. Their first taste of national attention came a decade ago, when the pair, then going by Brandon & Savannah, appeared as teens on America’s Got Talented, going on to the semifinals. Following that show, they formed a band called The Heirs, and performed on the Vans Warped Tour in 2016, but the project proved short lived, and soon they opted to instead take things in a new direction with Between Friends, settling on the electro-laced, indie, bedroom pop and indie pop sound they currently employ.
After reintroducing themselves with 2017 single “suburban wonderland,” Between Friends dropped their debut EP, we just need some time together, in 2018, swiftly amassing buzz online for their hypnotic, synthy, thoroughly modern sound. A series of mixtapes followed in 2021, culminating in ’90s inspired record i like when you shine! that same year, before exploring even more eclectic aesthetic territory and audio-visual mediums with last year’s CUTiE project. Their latest full-length album, this summer’s I Love My Girl, She’s My Boy, is Between Friends’ strongest, most honed work yet, perfectly showcasing their knack for crafting dreamy, poppy, hook-laden earworms, and their incredible musical dynamic, forged by a familial bond so few groups can replicate.
Out in support of their latest, the pair are set to headline Exit/In on Oct. 14 (their first show in Nashville, from what we can tell), along with New York pop and alternative and hip hop artist Blaketheman1000, whose sound is equally as internet-forged and perfectly suited to get this show started on a high note. Tickets are still available right here, but we’re excited to announce that we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Preview the lineup and enter below.
