If you’ve been following No Country for awhile, you should be more than familiar with halfnoise, the solo musical vehicle of Paramore drummer Zac Farro, a longtime local fave and friend of the site. Formed and cultivated more than a decade ago, between Farro’s 2010 departure from Paramore and his return to the renowned group in 2017, halfnoise has, so far, released four full-length albums and three EPs, navigating the realms of ambient, indie rock, synth-y indie pop, and groovy, retro psychedelia. Since dropping his last halfnoise project, 2021 LP motif, Farro has been busy with Paramore obligations, writing and recording the famed rock group’s sixth LP, This Is Why, and embarking on a well-received tour throughout much of this year. Ahead of more Paramore dates this fall, and a huge run of Europe next summer in support of Taylor Swift, Farro returned with his first halfnoise single in more than a year, breezy and propulsive tune “Baby” back in the spring.

With news of a new album forthcoming, halfnoise debuted another single, “Cool Cat,” last week, embracing a really funky, rhythmic vibe indicative on what we can expect from the the multifaceted artist’s new record. “With ‘Cool Cat’ I am describing someone who effortlessly goes about life. A person completely themselves and everyone around them admires them for that. Marching to the beat of their own drum. It’s one of the songs on the new album that makes you want to groove and live in it for a while,” Farro explains. Hear “Cool Cat” and watch the official visualizer below!

It’s been a couple years since halfnoise last played a full band hometown show, and Nashville is one of just three dates (along with New York and Los Angeles) that he currently has on the calendar, returning to Exit/In tonight, Sept. 1, along with impressive supporting lineup of friends and collaborators: art-pop artist Elke, indie dream pop project Dream Wave, and a DJ set from Becca Mancari, who just dropped their own fantastic new LP Left Hand, and is set to play The Blue Room on Oct. 6. One of our favorite live performers, Zac and his great backing band always put on a thrilling, fun, and heartfelt show (we still think fondly about that epic performance years ago at Lucky Bamboo), and this is low-key one of the must-see events of the summer, especially given Farro’s busy tour schedule elsewhere.

Tickets to halfnoise are still available right here while they last, and you can preview the lineup below!
