From the dreamy, forlorn indie folk and Americana of 2017 debut album Good Woman, to the grittier, more indie rock leaning 2020 sophomore effort The Greatest Part, to supergroup Bermuda Triangle, alongside Brittany Howard and Jesse Lafser, to collaborations with other renowned local artists like Hayley Williams and Julien Baker, eclectic singer-songwriter Becca Mancari has, without a doubt, been responsible for some of the best and most profound music to come out of Nashville since first arriving to the city just over a decade ago.
After a bit of a quiet recent stretch, which included some dark periods of personal tumult, and healing on the other side as they crafted their latest, Mancari (who identifies and non-binary and uses they/them pronouns) has announced a return with third album Left Hand, due out Aug. 25 via Captured Tracks. Self-produced, with assistance from longtime collaborator Juan Solorzano and mixing from Carlos de la Garza, the record includes features from friends and fellow Nashville artists Brittany Howard, Julien Baker, and HalfNoise and Paramore’s Zac Farro.
Along with the album announcement, Becca also just dropped first single “Over and Over,” featuring guest vocals from Julien Baker, as well as its official music video, directed by Min Soo Park. Breezy and lush, the song feels like a sonic bridge between Mancari’s prior work, but with a renewed optimism and hopefulness, landing as a cathartic path forward after a period of self-reckoning. “I wanted to write a queer pop song that has meat on its bones,” Becca explains, and in doing so, they’ve encapsulated the feelings of self-examination, reassurance, and the vibe of joyous hangs with dear friends, a feeling brought to life in breezy and uplifting accompanying video, featuring familiar faces like Liz Cooper and Liza Anne.
While they don’t currently have any Nashville shows on the books, a record release show seems like a given, and we’ll keep you updated on the latest news as Left Hand approaches. For now, you can watch Mancari’s new video below, and stream “Over and Over” on your platform of choice!
