Though Taylor Swift‘s sixth album, Reputation, only turns five next week, she’s currently celebrating the monumental success of her latest and tenth, Midnights, which, with more than 1.5 million copies sold in its first week, makes it her biggest release since Reputation, as she also just became the first artist in history to hold all top 10 slots on the Billboard Hot 100 at once. To say a lot happened in those five years in between would be an understatement, though, as Swift’s recent prolificacy is nearly unheard of for a modern mainstream artist. She released three other critically acclaimed and commercially successful original LPs- 2019’s Lover and a pair of surprise, stylistic departures in 2020, Folklore and Evermore– began the task of meticulously re-recording her first six albums after a dispute over ownership of her masters, breathing new life into sophomore album Fearless and fourth record Red with a expanded editions she dubbed “Taylor’s Version,” made a return to acting with 2019’s Cats and this year’s Amsterdam, appeared in a few documentaries, and even directed her own music video-turned-short film for the 10-minute version of her hit “All Too Well” last year.
One thing Swift hasn’t done, throughout the last three years and impressive six releases though, is tour, after a planned series of Lover-themed events back in 2020 dubbed “Lover Fest” were forced to cancel due to the pandemic. That all changes next year, however, when Taylor will embark on a series of stadium shows around the U.S. dubbed “The Eras Tour,” described as a musical journey through all eras of her career. Joined by a series of artists- mostly women- she’s championed over the years, the run kicks off in March and concludes in August (with international dates to be announced later), tapping Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN to support on various nights.
The Eras Tour will see Swift return to Nissan Stadium– where she last performed on The Reputation Tour in 2018– on May 6, joined by the incomparable Phoebe Bridgers and Nashville’s own GAYLE for the outing, something of a homecoming for the superstar, who got her start as a teen breakout in the Nashville country scene in the ’00s, and continues to work and retain a residence here in Music City.
As with her last tour, Swift is using Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program to handle ticket pre-sale, and fans can register here between now and Nov. 9 for a chance to receive a code to purchase tickets beginning Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. (a Capital One cardholder pre-sale will begin the same day at 2 p.m.). After that, the general on-sale begins Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. Though recent high-profile tours have been mired in ticket pricing controversy and a lack of transparency with Ticketmaster’s arbitrarily inflated “platinum ticket” scheme, Taylor has taken the unusual step of announcing prices in advance- $49 to $449 for standard tickets, with VIP packages ranging from $199 to $899- which gives us hope that her pricing structure will be a little less chaotic (even if the demand is gigantic).
UPDATE 11/4: Due to overwhelming demand, eight more stops have been added to Swift’s Eras Tour, including another Nissan Stadium date, May 5 with Bridgers and Gracie Abrams. The same pre-registration process applies, and if you’ve already signed up for Verified Fan, you can use the same link to edit your request to include both Nashville dates.
UPDATE 11/11: Days before the pre-sale, Swift has added another 17 dates, all extra nights in existing markets, including a May 7 third night at Nissan Stadium, again with Bridgers and Abrams. Though Verified Fan registration is closed and cannot be edited at this point, it has been noted by Ticketmaster that “Anyone invited to participate in the TaylorSwiftTix Presale will have access to purchase the added event(s) within their selected market.” All prior pre-sale and on-sale details still apply.
