A No Country favorite since day one, local synth-soaked, dreamy, and thoughtful pop project PHANGS just released his stellar new album, I Love Everything That You Hate About Yourself, and we’re beyond thrilled to help present his release show in celebration tonight, July 15 at Exit/In!
Featuring a stacked local lineup of 90’s Kids and Amber Ais (ESSY was also slated to perform, but had to drop out due to Covid), a portion of the proceeds will benefit Planned Parenthood (which, as you know, is a more essential cause than ever right now). You can get tickets right here, and learn more about the fantastic lineup below!
PHANGS
The musical outlet of prolific local artist Jake Germany, PHANGS is a project we’ve been huge fans of since literally day one. Formed in the wake of Germany’s prior rock act Cardboard Kids, PHANGS has been making hypnotic, layered, earnest, and synth-soaked pop music since appearing on the scene in 2016, and across numerous singles, records, and EPs, has refined his incredibly catchy sound and cemented himself as one of Nashville’s most indispensable acts. With his latest, I Love Everything That You Hate About Yourself, featuring an impressive array of guests like Matt Thiessen, LFO, and Kellin Quinn, Phangs effortlessly fuses ’80s synth tones, maximalist ’90s pop hooks, and more introspective and lush contemporary stylings to craft his most unique, ambitious, and honed LP to date, and though it just dropped today, it immediately strikes us as one of the year’s best pop albums!
90’S KIDS
Ohio formed, Nashville based pop rock outfit 90’s Kids have been cranking out some anthemic, hook-laden, unabashedly poppy jams for several years now, met with positive positive for their 2020 Doing Love Wrong EP, and recently further honing their honing their sound (and packing some serious singalong-worthy jams) with latest EP Wreck My Life (PHANGS even shows up on single “Mandy Moore”). Self-described as “the soundtrack to your own coming-of-age movie,” the band definitely channel that ’90s nostalgia their name would indicate.
AMBER AIS
Boston born indie pop singer-songwriter Amber Ais makes dreamy, lush, and earnest story-driven songs, balancing layered and timeless melodic sensibilities with her powerful vocal stylings. Her thoughtful, accessible, and soulful flavor of pop is quickly making her an essential fixture of the local music scene!
