Formed in the late 90s in Versailles, France, and a moderate indie underground success throughout the ’00s, it was 2009’s fourth album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix that made indie pop outfit Phoenix into massive international stars, propelled by hits like “Lisztomania” and “1901.” Though the group have only released two LPs since, 2013’s Bankrupt! and 2017’s Ti Amo, they’ve remained a seminal figure in the indie scene, and have continued to tour, with stops in Nashville around both prior releases, at Marathon Music Works and The Ryman respectively.
Currently hard at work on new music, Phoenix recently returned with a great, dance-primed single, “Alpha Zulu,” along with a really fun and stylized accompanying video, which you catch watch below. And while the band haven’t quite detailed exactly when to expect their next album just yet, they have announced a fall run of tour dates through North America, returning them to The Ryman Auditorium for the first time in five years Sept. 19 with synth-pop favorite Porches! Tickets went on sale this morning, and are sure to go quick, so snag ’em right here while you can.
