Icons of ’90s alternative rock, responsible for some of the most influential and successful albums of all time, Chicago’s Smashing Pumpkins have hardly ever disappeared throughout their 34-year run (save for a six-year split at the start of the millennium), but it seems like every few years they recapture headlines, whether it’s for the return of a longtime band member (founding guitarist James Iha is back in the band after 18 years, and on-again-off-again original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin is back as well), hitting some nostalgic milestone for their early work, or embarking on some new and experimental release strategy for their latest (which has increasingly been the case throughout the last decade of output).

No strangers to Nashville either, the Pumpkins have played shows at The Ryman, Ascend Amphitheater, and, most recently, Bridgestone Arena over the past several years, and Bridgestone is once again where they’ll return when the band head back to town Oct. 10!

Dubbed the Spirit on Fire Tour and something of a delayed supporting run for their 2020 LP Cyr (they promise new music in the near future too), this show would be great with Smashing Pumpkins alone, but it’s absolutely essential, especially for ’80s and ’90s alt rock fans, thanks to their supporting act: fellow icons of the era Jane’s Addiction. Unlike the Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction haven’t been very prolific in releasing new stuff (only two albums in the last 20 years) but have also remained pretty intermittently active live, settling into their rock legacy and regularly making festival appearances, particularly at Lollapalooza, which the group was instrumental in founding.

Gere-bending rock and pop artist (and one-time Nashvillian) Poppy has also been tapped to open the show, and tickets go general on sale this Friday, May 13 at 10 a.m. CDT right here. There’s also a variety of pre-sales happening throughout the week, so keep an eye out for those and check out a full list of tour dates below!
