A buzzy fixture of the synthpop scene, Brooklyn duo Great Good Fine Ok have become a must-see act in recent years, boasting an acclaimed series of EPs and tracks, and earning praise throughout the blogosphere. Set to return to town June 19 to headline Exit/In, the group have tapped breakout Ohio alt pop singer Vesperteen, whose 2018 sophomore EP was one of last year’s best under the radar pop efforts, as support, with brand new local project Curli. set to open. A must-see for fans of genre-bending, synth soaked, indie pop, tickets are still available right here while they last! Or, if you’d rather leave it to chance, we’re excited to announce that also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Read on for more about the show, and enter for a chance to win below.
GREAT GOOD FINE OK
Formed in 2013 in Brooklyn by vocalist Jon Sandler and producer/keyboard player Luke Moellman (who both grew up in upstate New York, but didn’t meet until relocating to the city), Great Good Fine Ok have become a fixture of the buzzy, synth-drenched, indie pop sphere in recent years, initially after hitting #1 on TheHypeMachine with their early first single, “You’re the One for Me,” earning them a swift audience and widespread attention. More electronic and production-geared than many of their more indie rock leaning peers, GGFO dropped their first EP, Body Diamond, in 2013, soon attracting the attention of Neon Gold and Epic Records, and making their debut at SXSW. The group have released two more EPs since, along with a prolific string of singles, remixes, covers, and collaborations (including a spot with breakout group The Chainsmokers), all the while amassing millions of plays, sustained buzz, numerous festival appearances, and tours with the likes of Tove Lo, Joywave, X Ambassadors, Betty Who, Penguin Prison, and more. The duo wowed us last year with Smallpools, and, with a buzzy string of new singles since, are due for a new record, so they’re bound to keep things fresh upon their headlining return. Don’t miss it!
VESPERTEEN
After many years drumming for famed Columbus, Ohio alt rock group House of Heroes, Colin Rigsby, seeking a new creative outlet, began pursuing a solo endeavor as Vesperteen, crafting infectiously catchy and expansive alt pop, which he writes, co-produces, and even designs artwork for, serving and a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, and performing live standing up and singing behind a glowing drum kit. After his eponymous debut EP in 2015, Rigsby found runaway early buzz, subsequently hitting the road for several years of constant touring, all the while organically forging a passionate fanbase. Partnering with impressive producers and co-writers Lostboycrow, John Feldman, and PJ Bianco, and even tapping friend Josh Dun of twenty one pilots for a guest spot, Vesperteen last year returned with his followup, the more lush, honed, and cohesive The Hype Is Dead, spawning another crop of well-received singles and continuing to rack up countless streams. A perfect compliment to Great Good Fine Ok, Vespterteen is still a relative newcomer with an impressive couple of years under his belt, and definitely an artist to watch for fans of synthy, alternative pop.
CURLI.
Though Great Good Fine Ok have only been around for six years and Vespterteen for four, Nashville’s own Curli., set to open the show, are truly a newcomers, having only released their debut single, “worth,” back in May, making their live debut around the same time. Led by multi-instrumentalist Kam Lee, the brand new project is still a little mysterious to us, but given the retro sounding, synth-laden, hypnotic bop that is their debut tune, we’re certainly intrigued, and urge you to show up early and see what they’re all about!
