Turkuaz2018-620

Celebrating their poignantly personal and exuberantly genre-bending latest and best album to date, Life in the City, Brooklyn powerfunk outfit Turkuaz are set to return to town to once again headline Exit/In with instrumental up and comers Butcher Brown on Oct. 25. A colorful, eclectic, vibrant live outfit, in just a few short years Turkaz have released an impressive string of albums and honed a cult following, and if you haven’t yet seen their phenomenal live show, you’re sorely missing out. Tickets for their latest Music City stop are still available here, or, if you’d rather leave it up to chance, we’re also giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky fan! Read on for more about the show, and enter for a chance to win below.

TURKUAZ

Hailing from Brooklyn, disco/dance/powerfunk nine-piece outfit Turkuaz have been cultivating a rabid following since first bursting onto the scene with their self-titled debut in 2011, since touring the nation countless times and making well-received appearances at the likes of Bonnaroo, Red Rocks, Mountain Jam, Okeechobee, Lock’N, and more, and releasing several more excellent records along the way. Incorporating elements of r&b, psychedelic pop, gospel, Afro-pop, new wave, classic rock, and more, the eclectic band are characterized by a kaleidoscope of colors, sounds, personality, and vibrance. Bringing light and a self-fulfilling positivity into what can sometimes be a dark and challenging world, the unique outfit’s recent fifth album, Life in the City, is their best, most adventures, and lush effort yet, benefitting from stellar production by Talking Heads’ Jerry Harrison. The band’s upbeat, dance-primed aesthetic and fun-loving tone doesn’t always mean light subject matter, however, as the Turkuaz’s latest manages to explore the ups and downs of life, the current state of the world, what it takes to find happiness, and how we grasp for control when we feel disillusioned. A beloved and unrivaled live outfit, you really need to see Turkuaz in person to full appreciate their style, and in a room the size of Exit/In, it’s sure to be one hell of a party.

BUTCHER BROWN

Made up of multi-instrumentalist and producer/engineer DJ Harrison, bassist Andrew Randazzo, guitarist Morgan Burrs, horn player Marcus Tenney, and drummer Corey Fonville, Richmond, Virginia’s Butcher Brown are a jazz, soul, funk, garage punk, and hip hop infused instrumental project that should definitely be on your radar. Having collaborated with the likes of Nicholas Payton, Nigel Hall, Dionne Farris, and Christian Scott, released a prolific string of excellent, genre-bending albums and live sessions over the past few years, and honed a respectable regional following, Butcher Brown are primed to leap from the underground to become a national fixture, and given their real-deal chops and expansive approach, we’ll be keeping a close eye on them. Be sure to show up early!
