LOW CUT CONNIE
Formed in Philadelphia back in 2010, Low Cut Connie created their own brand of rock and roll that pushes boundaries and packs a punch. Frontman Adam Weiner started off performing solo in dive bars and other unconventional spaces before forming the band with now-former members Dan Finnemore and Neil Duncan. Shortly after, the three recorded their debut LP, Get Out the Lotion, and self-released it in 2011. Their dynamic indie rock sound won praise from many critics and paved the way for their quick followup, Call Me Sylvia, which dropped in 2012. That LP again won many positive reviews, and even a nod from then-President Barack Obama, who included him on his personal Spotify playlist in 2015.
After the release of Call Me Sylvia, the band spent time touring and working to hone their own mix of retro-inspired rock riffs with insightful modern songwriting. The result was 2015’s Hi Honey, produced by Thomas Brenneck, the acclaimed session guitarist who previously worked with both Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Amy Winehouse. His vision helped elevate their sound even further, and landed them on many best-of lists for the year.
Last year, Low Cut Connie dropped Dirty Pictures (Part 1), a gripping LP that focuses on the stories of people they’ve encountered during their years on the road alongside their freewheeling rock and roll romps. The record especially shines on the live stage, where the band are known to give it their all until the curtain closes. Catch them during this one-night-only stop at Mercy Lounge and experience it all for yourself.
RI¢HIE
A longtime staple of the Nashville alternative rock scene, RI¢HIE is known for his over-the-top style and sound. Also known by his nickname “Sweet Baby Richie,” Richie Kirkpatrick takes on ridiculous rock stereotypes and throws them on their heads. In some videos, you’ll see him dolled up in traditional country garb while throwing down rock hooks. It’s a jarring juxtaposition that immediately grabs your attention. The Bonnaroo veteran will take the stage to help kick things off, so don’t miss what is sure to be an unpredictable set.
CHLOE KAT
You may recognize Chloe Kat from her work in local band Kat Milk Blu, which mixes elements of soul, blues, funk and old school rock. But the Los Angeles native has her own impressive songbook of material, including 2014’s stirring Illusions Of A Muse. In a city filled with impressive voices, Chloe’s soulful tone is one that will hit you right in the heart. Get there early to hear her for yourself.
